Rebuilt, Remastered Heart
The autumn air blew her brown waves into a knotted mess as she walked through the front door of her small house. The cold winds outside had drawn her to wear a coat but she quickly shrugged it off as she headed to the kitchen for some lunch. She could hear the wind blowing the wind chimes outside while she opened the fridge. She pulled out a loaf of bread when she heard a loud, low moan.
She was sure she was home alone…nothing was in a disarray; the door was locked…if it wasn’t a burglar, who could be here? The only other person to have a key was her fiancée Li-
“Oh Liam! Oh God, harder!” A girl screamed.
She quickly dropped the loaf from her hands onto the counter as her boot-covered feet led her to her bedroom door. She quickly turned the knob and threw the door open.
“Fuck, fuck I’m so close baby.”He dug his fingers into the girl’s hips as he arched his hips and drove faster. She writhed below him.
She slammed her hand flatly against the door to get their attention before she crossed her arms. As they stilled and looked back at her she cocked an eyebrow. “Wow Liam. What a catch you have.” She nodded to the naked girl who was less than attractive with her bushy eyebrows and blotchy skin tone.
Liam quickly got up from the bed, stark naked and walked up to her. “Miley, it’s not what it looks-” She cut him off.
Miley picked up his boxers from the floor and shoved them into his chest. “Don’t use some cliché line with me and expect me to believe it. I’m not that stupid. How many times have you done this in MY bed?”
Liam swallowed as he still held his boxers to his chest. After a moment’s pause Miley scoffed.
“Apparently too many times to remember. Both of you get the fuck out of my house.” Miley stalked out of the room and back into the kitchen and began to make her sandwich.
Cody, Casey, Tyler, Jeff, Ron and now Liam, Miley thought to herself as she heard Liam walking towards her.
“Miley, please let me explain,”he pled.
She turned to look at Liam. “No need. I’m sorry for being such a fool. We’re done and there’s nothing left to say.” She turned back around and took a
bite into her lunch. She wasn’t going to care this time, she’d rebuilt her heart too many times.
Half way through her sandwich she turned to face the open floor. “Fuck this.” She plopped her meal on the plate and marched her way to her bedroom where she lost it.
She tore the pillows and blankets from her bed, wadded them up and then began to pull the mattress out of the door. Once it was in the living room she went back for the box spring and before long the whole mess was in her front yard. Miley lay on her living room floor with a fat, black sharpie and a long piece of butcher paper.
Miley capped the marker, grabbed the duct tape from a drawer in the kitchen and walked outside. She placed the banner above her bed, it read-“Free! Like the whore that fucked my fiancée on it!” She stepped back to the curb of the street to admire her handywork.
“Bad day?” a male asked.
She turned her head to face her neighbor, Joe. “Nothing time can’t fix.” Miley smiled.
And I could look into the
crowded morgue of mistakes
The sun stopped its smile
and frowned on me too
My re-built, re-mastered heart
is smashed into its faces
and its face is confused
I cut my throat in two
I said "sorry" to you,
for being a fool
but I didn't forgiveness.
It was regret,
not apology
it was regret, regret, regret.

The music bumped and flooded the club, Fire and Rain. Miley wove her way through the crowd, a drink in her hand. She was to be backstage by now so she could get herself together for her gig. Just as she reached the door she found a familiar face.
“You look gorgeous.” He looked her frame up and down, eyes focused on the places her blue dress gripped tightly at her breasts and hips.
Miley’s eyes pierced through him as she spoke. “Go fuck your whore Liam and leave me out of it. I’m not letting you decide how to live my life.” She pushed past him and quickly found the house band.
The yellow and green lights were hot as they shined down on her. She looked out into the crowded club. “How you all doin’ tonight!?” While the crowd screamed she locked eyes on the bartender, Joe. She waved and called out again. “How many of you have ever wasted your time on someone?! How many of you regret it!?” The screams got louder. “Well, I’m going to start my set off with a cover of one of my favorite songs by my favorite artist! I hope you don’t mind!” Mileythen locked her eyes on Liam before she started.
And I'm an event,
everybody knows
You decide if you can live
or you decide to let someone decide for you.

Miley ran through the crowd of people and to the bar when she had finished.” Double of Jack!” She yelled over the music. Joe slid the shots down the bar and she caught them, dropping them back like water.
“You were good tonight! We should celebrate!” Joe called back as he poured another drink.
Liam sat next to her. “She wasn’t that great. She’s not that great at anything actually.”
Miley turned to pierce her gaze at Liam. She twisted the ring off her left hand, which she still hadn’t thought of what to do with, and threw it at his face. She turned back to Joe. “What time do you get off?!
Liam held the ring and called after her as she moved toward Joe. “I thought we were forever!? It’s your dream isn’t it!”
She turned with a smirk on her lips. “The only thing forever is hate!” She swayed her hips as she came up to Joe. “So what time?”
Joe smiled as he watched her twirl her already wavy hair. “Two.”
I forget what I saw
before and after that day
I'd trade all I was worth
